update on the babe

update from the mom on the babe:

  • she is pretty much walking everywhere now, crawling is SO last month
  • she still loves black beans, i think she could eat them at every meal
  • she also loves cheese toast, nutri grain bars and yo baby yogurt
  • she is sleeping like a champ during the day at school (three hour naps) but at home when mommy wants to take a nap she sleeps about 45 mins :) what are those girls putting in her bottle :)
  • her hair is finally getting longer and it is getting curly in the back!! thank God i think she has her daddys hair!
  • her birthday is in 19 days. i cant believe she has already been in my life this long, sometimes it feels like yesterday and sometimes it feels like she should be a teenager
  • she will be getting dedicated to the church on March 30th. this is not the same thing as infant baptism. we believe that a person gets baptized AFTER they accept Christ as their personal savior and since you need to be old enough to know what that decision means you will be older when you are baptized. this is just mommy and daddy promising that they will raise her in the best Christian environment possible and hope that she will choose to follow Christ when she is old enough to make that decision. the following is what our church says about baptism:
What Baptism Symbolizes
Baptism is a way of showing others that you have entered into a relationship with Jesus Christ. It symbolizes what took place in your heart at the time of salvation: * Accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. * Shared in His death and resurrection, illustrated by going under the water (dead to your old life), then rising again (new life). * Were symbolically washed clean, and sins were forgiven by His death on the cross.

Because Jesus instructed us to be baptized, baptism is an act of obedience. While it is not necessary for salvation, it demonstrates submission to God. We immerse at Buckhead Church because we believe Scripture shows that Jesus modeled that for us as the way to publicly acknowledge our faith in Him.

Infant Christening
Some denominations choose to christen infants. While we recognize the right of other churches to practice infant christening, we understand Scripture to teach that only professing believers qualify for baptism. Baptism does not make you a believer, rather it shows that you already believe.
  • this is why i LOVE my church, every environment at Buckhead Church teaches our kids about God and the sacrifice that Christ made for them. Waumba Land (birth-4) teaches them that God made them, God loves them and Jesus wants to be their friend forever. UpStreet (K-5) teaches them that: 1. I need to make the WISE choice. 2. I can TRUST GOD no matter what. 3. I should treat OTHERS the way I want to be treated. KidStuf (K-5) reinforces what UpStreet teaches by engaging the parents bc KidStuf is where kids bring their parents to learn. Xtreme (middle school) and InSide Out (high school) create environments where middle/high school students can...* Prioritize their relationship with Christ * Influence their friends * Experience personal ministry. And last but not least for the "kids." College Ministry has a mission to lead students into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. Their desire is to see this fulfilled through students leading other students.
  • so on to what the babe is doing: she is pointing at everything and nonono is still her favorite word right now. we do not have a 4th word yet
  • she will hand us things when we ask for them, for example, "hand mommy the ball"
  • she has her first diaper rash ever this week :( but not bad for 11 months old
  • she wants to be with daddy all the time. even when i am around she wants daddy!! she gets so excited when he gets home at night. today he sneaked down the stairs and i knew he was here bc she starting smiling so BIG!!
  • she has started drinking regular milk this month too. BUT she has this really bad habit of sipping a little bit and then spitting it out. by the end of her meal the entire bib is soaked with milk. YUCK!! i hope she out grows this habit soon, but i am not sure she will since she also does this with water and has for a while UGH!
  • she is pretty much over baby food except for fruit and cereal, she doesnt really like the veggies anymore. i mean she will eat it but she wants to feed herself as much as she can
well i think that is all for now. i will try to post some new pics soon especially of her curly hair!!

nursery rhymes?

have you ever though about some of the things we read or sing to our children?

i was looking in one of our books the other day of mother goose nursery rhymes and came across these two:

Goosey Goosey Gander where shall I wander,
Upstairs, downstairs and in my lady's chamber
There I met an old man who wouldn't say his prayers,
I took him by the left leg and threw him down the stairs.

There was an old woman who lived in a shoe,
She had so many children she didn't know what to do!
So she gave them some broth without any bread,
And she whipped them all soundly and sent them to bed!

and what about this one??

Ring around the rosy
A pocketful of posies
"Ashes, Ashes"
We all fall down!

here is what a website i found has to say about that!!

Connections to the Bubonic Plague (Black Death)?
The words to the Ring around the rosy children's ring game have their origin in English history . The historical period dates back to the Great Plague of London in 1665 (bubonic plague) or even before when the first outbreak of the Plague hit England in the 1300's. The symptoms of the plague included a rosy red rash in the shape of a ring on the skin (Ring around the rosy). Pockets and pouches were filled with sweet smelling herbs ( or posies) which were carried due to the belief that the disease was transmitted by bad smells. The term "Ashes Ashes" refers to the cremation of the dead bodies! The death rate was over 60% and the plague was only halted by the Great Fire of London in 1666 which killed the rats which carried the disease which was transmitting via water sources. The English version of "Ring around the rosy" replaces Ashes with (A-tishoo, A-tishoo) as violent sneezing was another symptom of the disease. We recommend the following site for comprehensive information regarding the Bubonic Plague

one dollar adoption

i found another amazing family out there who is adopting a very special needs little boy named william. one of her recent posts asked if everyone who reads her blog could consider donating $1.00 to her fund and then passing on her blog and story then they will be that much closer to rescuing this sweet baby. he is currently in liberia and malaria runs rampant there so the sooner the better to get him out of there. he has severe facial deformities (severe tessier 4 cleft lip and palate), and could die from infection.

please consider contributing to this families needs and also to post about them on your blog too :)

One Dollar Adoption

Hi guys,
As you may know we have to raise $15,000 for our adoption of William. His adoption was unexpected as we had adopted our daughter from Liberia last year and thought we would wait a while to adopt another child. When our agency sent out the plea to find William a family I could not help but inquire about the little guy. Other families had interest but later decided his needs were more than they could handle at this time. We have a small ammount of savings but nothing near what our adoption and travel fees are. So we are asking for your help.

We are asking if it at all might be possible for each person who reads our blog to search their hearts and pray and decide if William's adoption may be something you might want to donate towards. We are not asking for much. If each person who reads out blog would donate a $1 and then pass our story and blog address on to their family and friends and ask them to do the same, and with the Lord Almighty's help we may be able to do this.

Please consider our little guy! We are forever grateful for your donations, love and especially your prayers. Prayer is SUCH an amazing force.

If you would like to send a check please send it to

Acres of Hope, Liberia, Inc
29525 Four Corners Store Road
Mason, Wisconsin 54856

Please make checks out to : Acres of Hope, Liberia

We want you to feel comfortable donating to William's cause. This is why we ask you make checks out to our agency. If for some reason you would like to send a check directly to us, please email me at and I will give you the info.
If you prefer to use paypal we have set up an account for that as well. All donations will receive a receipt from paypal for tax purposes etc. On the side bar is a button for a paypal donation.

Thank you so much for your love and support.

With all our love and blessings,

William's Mom and Family

i decided to take pics after i had already started painting :)
